Basic Text Message Setup
Opt-out Instructions
In addition to your desired text content, it is recommended to include the following at the end of all text messages:
"From a send-only number. STOP to opt-out"
Custom replies to texts sent from Gnosis are not supported.
Recipients can opt-out of receiving text messages by replying STOP. This is the only form of reply that is supported.
Including URLs in Text Content
URLs may be inserted into text content, but because many of them are quite long - especially Gnosis auto-login URL's - it is a best practice to use the built-in Gnosis URL shortener. To shorten a URL:
To use the URL shortener, highlight the URL or the Merge Token that will be replaced by a URL, then press the "Shorten Selected URL" button.
The Shorten URL dialog presents four options for shortening:
Shorten: We recommend using this option if you are shortening any URL on your Gnosis portal website as the system will choose the required options automatically.
+Auto Login: This option adds an auto-login token to the end of the URL being encrypted. On Gnosis enabled sites, this causes the visitor to be automatically logged in.
+Encryption: If the recipient does not need to be logged in, but your URL includes sensitive parameter information, this option will encrypt the parameter information. This is only useful on Gnosis portal websites.
+Both Opt.: If you wish to add both Auto-Login and Encryption to your URL being shortened, use this option. On Gnosis web portal sites, this option is the default when selecting the "Shorten" button.
The resultant text will show as follows:
- For a simple shorten: «@ShortenURL("«ZoomMeetingURL»")»
- For a shorten with Auto-Login or encryption: «@ShortenURL("«ZoomMeetingURL»",token_name)»
In the delivered text message, the shortening makes a significant difference as shown below:
Lastly, using shortened URL's can almost halve your text messaging expenditure as charges for text messages are based on message sizes of 256 characters, so a message of 300 characters will be charged as two messages being sent.
Testing a Text Message
If text messaging is enabled in your system, like all other Communication items it is always recommended to test your text message before sending or scheduling for automated use. Follow the steps below to send a test text message.
- Ensure a test email address has been added for your Gnosis user account. See Setting Up Mobile Phone for Test Messages for guidance.
- Once your email content is complete in Gnosis Communications, click the Preview/Test button to send the test email message.
