Setting Up an Email Client For Your Gnosis Hosted Email Account

You may setup and use any of the popular email clients to work with your Gnosis Hosted SmarterMail Service. Email clients may use either POP3 or IMAP to connect to your mailbox.  IMAP provides greater functionality, allowing you to sync your email box with multiple clients (such as desktop and phone clients).

The configuration for email client's is as follows:

SMTP Server mail1.gnosismail.net
POP3 Server, or IMAP Server mail1.gnosismail.net
SMTP Server Port 25 or 8500 - Recommend you use 8500
POP3 Port 110
IMAP Port 143
SMTP Authentication Server requires Authentication (your full email address and password of your mailbox/incoming mail server)

Setting Up Outlook

Outlook is supported for full mailbox syncronization - mail, calendar and contacts.  Basic email setup using the IMAP service requires only a few settings, then, syncronization of calendar and contacts requires installation of a plugin for your outlook.  If you are on an IT department controlled PC, you may need to request IT assistance to do this if you do not have administrative (software install) rights to yourt PC.

Full installation instructions for Outlook are contained in a PDF document that you may download here Download PDF Document.

Setting Up iPhone and iPad Mail Clients

If you wish to implement auto-sync-push accounts for your iDevices, you need to add Active Sync service to your mailbox.  This service is available for a small additional monthly charge for each mailbox.

If you desire only the basic non-push service on your iDevice, choose the "Other" option for adding email instead of "Microsoft Exchange" in step 4 below.

Setting Up Email on iDevices:

  1. On your iDevice's home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Tap Add Mail Account.
  4. Tap Microsoft Exchange.
  5. Complete the following required fields:
    1. Email (your full email address)
    2. Domain name (just the part after the @ in your email address)
    3. Username (this is your full email address including the @domainname.org)
    4. Password
    5. Description (Optional)
  6. Tap Next.
  7. After a moment, the iDevice will ask for the server information. This is the server name part of the URL to your Gnosis SmarterMail webmail. For example, mail1.gnosismail.net. NOTE: Do not include http:// when entering the server information.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. The iDevice will display a list of collaboration items to sync with Exchange ActiveSync. Choose from the list and tap Done to initiate the first sync.
