Installing a Special Version of Gnosis Pro
Gnosis Pro only needs to be installed once. It automatically updates itsself when required and under normal circumstances, you should never have to reinstall or update it manually.
- If you are running on Windows Vista or Windows 7, you MUST perform the following steps before continuing. If you are using older windows software, please skip to step 2.
- Windows 7 / Vista Steps:
- If you have the User Access Control (UAC) enabled, or, if you do not know about UAC, please follow these steps:
- While logged in as an Administrator for your PC, go to the Windows Control Panel, choose 'User Accounts' or 'Family Security' depending on the version of Windows that you are using.
- Select the option to 'Change your account'.
- Ensure that 'UAC' (User Access Control) is turned all the way off (slider to the bottom) BEFORE beginning the Gnosis install. You also must reboot after changing UAC before you install Gnosis. Note: Once you have completed the installation of Gnosis, you may, if desired, turn your UAC control back on to the level at which it was previously set.
- Windows 7 / Vista Steps:
- Download Gnosis from the special URL that you have been provided with. This version of Gnosis Pro is specially constructed to provide the services required for your organization.
- Once the download has completed, double-click on the file to open the installer.
- NOTE: If you receive a message that Microsoft.Net Framework is not installed or that the version is incorrect, continue below, otherwise, skip to Step 4.
- If required (i.e.: if the installer tells you that you need .Net Framework 2.0 installed):
Download the .Net 2.0 Framework from http://updates.connect4.net/dl/dotnetfx20.exe to a location that you will easily remember. - Install .Net Framework by double-clicking on the downloaded file, or, "run" from the downloads window. The .Net installation will take a few minutes to complete.
- Return to the originally downloaded Gnosis Pro installer file and double-click on it to run the installer.
- Accept the defaults for all installer questions, press next then finish buttons to install the software. When the installation is complete, move on to step 5.
- While still logged in to the computer as an administrator, either use the "Gnosis Key File" provided to setup the Gnosis Pro client or, enter the login screen details manually.
- If you have a Gnosis Key file, opening it (double-click on it) will plug in all of the correct values on the login screen. If this works OK, go ahead and enter your username and password to login to Gnosis.
- If you do not have a "Key File", double-click on the Gnosis icon to reach the login screen and enter the settings on the login screen manually:
- Click on the "New" profile button
- Enter a profile name (such as your organization name or acronym)
- Enter your Organization ID provided to you with your subscription (you may also copy this from an installation of Gnosis Pro on any other PC in your organization).
- Enter your "Remote DB" URL using the following format:
- https://YourOrganizationID.gnosishosting.net/Connect4/WebService/Service/asmx where YourOrganizationID is the organization ID provided to you with your subscription
- Finally, enter your username and password to login to Gnosis. Note: You must login to Gnosis the first time while you are still loggin in to your computer as a Windows Administrator, so, make sure you do this before changing back to your regular windows account if necessary.
- If you needed to login to your computer as an administrator to install the software, you may now logout and go back to your own windows account and repeat step 5 above to configure Gnosis for your own login.
- If this is the first time you have installed Gnosis and you are new to the system, please view the "Getting Started" video at your earliest convenience.
Note: The requirement to turn off UAC for installation will be eliminated in a forthcoming release of Gnosis Pro client software to simplify the installation process.
